Ancona originated in Italy. Like Leghorns, they were bred to produce a large amount of eggs. Anconas, next to the Leghorn and Australorp, are the best layers. They, like all Mediterranean breeds, are known for their flighty nature. Anconas are very skittish and do not like people. Although, occasionally there will be a friendly one.
